A
very warm welcome
to the website of our new Parish of Blessed John Henry Newman, founded
on 1 October 2010 by Right Reverend Peter Doyle, Bishop of Northampton,
with Fr Innocent Abonyi MSP as our first parish priest. Our parish
has four church communities in and around the town of High Wycombe:
Our Lady of Grace, Booker; Shared Church of St James the Great,
Downley; St Wulstan, Totteridge; and St Edmund Campion, Hazlemere.
This
beautiful name was chosen after prayers and reflections by parishioners
from our four churches, and following the approval of Bishop Peter
and the council of Priests of our diocese. Just a few weeks earlier,
on Sunday 19 September, the final day of his historic visit to the
British Isles, His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, beatified the English
theologian, pastor and founder of the Oratories in Birmingham and
London, John Henry, Cardinal Newman. So it is most appropriate that
our new parish be called after him. Under the patronage of this
great English convert to Catholicism we will strive to build a thriving
Catholic Community from the diverse histories and talents found
in our four communities. We are already working together on all
aspects of our parish life: planning liturgies, organising social
events and developing ever closer ties.
We hope
you will find lots of useful information on this site. Our aim is
simply to bear witness to the love God has for us in the person
of our Lord Jesus Christ, to share this love with each other and
to spread it into the wider community in which we live. We look
forward to welcoming you into one of our friendly, supportive &
caring communities, bringing with you your unique, God-given gifts!
So please make yourself known to us & don’t hesitate to get
in touch and get involved.
